I’m pretty sure I have to turn the wheel at least 4 times as much to counter-steer as I steered in the opposite direction to turn, just to even have a sliver of a chance to catch a slide, which becomes troublesome when the counter-steering inevitably overcorrects and I then have to struggle against the force feedback again to counter-steer the counter-steer. When any car in the Forza Horizon 4 demo starts sliding or oversteering to even the slightest degree, I suddenly have to struggle AGAINST the force feedback in order to FORCE the wheels to counter-steer, this coupled with the fact that I have to apply counter-steering much more drastically than the initial steering input that caused the oversteer in the first place, makes dirt races pretty much impossible with wheel and pedals. When a car in the real world and in actual driving simulators like Project CARS 2, rFactor 2, iRacing or Assetto Corsa, starts sliding or oversteering, the laws of physics will universally push the front wheels (and in turn the steering wheel) towards a counter-steer so that the car self-rights, even if I just let go of the wheel (unless the slide is too great for that alone to be enough). My main issue is when the force feedback is applied. I can deal with there not being any road feel in particular, I don’t expect detailed physics mapping of little bumps and cracks in the asphalt on a large open world map. While I consider this overall stronger force feedback an improvement, it also made it completely clear to me that whoever programmed the force feedback for FH4 has fundamentally misunderstood the entire concept. While the controls did seem to actually work as intended, as in I could use the gas pedal, brake pedal and turn the wheel all at once and the game didn’t seem to have any inputs override the others, I did notice that the force feedback was much more liberally applied than I remembered it being in Forza Horizon 3 (I would describe FFB in FH3 as practically non-existent). I definitely hope this works better once the game actually comes out.Īlright, yesterday after playing some Project CARS 2 with my wheel and pedals, I decided to try out the Forza Horizon 4 demo with my trusty old Logitech G25 setup. On the keyboard W as the gas pedal doesn’t seem to be a continuous input like holding down right trigger on my controller is, so every time I had done some sort of steering input with A or D, I would have to release W and press it down again to get any throttle. So I tried using my keyboard to make sure it wasn’t my controller setup causing the problem, but I had the exact same problem using keyboard controls, except with a little twist. Like the game can’t handle multiple inputs at once, and none of the face buttons other than the D-Pad do anything. When using my controller (DualShock 4 through DS4Windows which translates DS4 inputs into XBox360 controller inputs), it’s like the game decides at random every half second whether stepping on the gas or brakes means I should have no steering input, or whether steering left or right means it should just cancel out my gas or brake input. The controls however need some serious work. I installed and ran the demo today to see if this new instalment ran better on my PC than the previous one, and I was happy to find that it did run very smoothly, so good job on optimization so far in my opinion.
